2nd Experts’ Workshop on Criminal Investigation and Prosecution

Haryana Police under the aegis of Dr. Hanif Qureshi (Commissioner of Police, Faridabad) in collaboration with Mr. Divyakant Lahoti, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India and Mr. Shashank Garg, Advocate, Supreme Court of India organized the 2nd Experts’ Workshop on Criminal Investigation and Prosecution at Manav Rachna International University, Suraj Kund Road, Faridabad, Haryana on 16th April, 2017 (Sunday).

The inaugural session which was centrally themed around the ‘Reformation of Criminal Justice System’ and witnessed the presence of the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Ms. Justice Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice, Madras High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.K. Mittal, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajan Gupta, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Mr. Ajay Chaudhry, IPS, OSD to Lt. Governor, Delhi among other dignitaries.

Mr. Ram Niwas, Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Haryana who gave the opening address focused on the intricacies of Criminal Justice System and the dire need for reformation. Dr. K.P. Singh, Director General of Police, Haryana gave the closing remarks at the Inaugural Session.
The Workshop aimed at debating, analysing critical aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution in order to ensure that all stakeholders understand and perform their respective roles effectively through eight diversely spread out sessions. A total of 300 delegates including police officers from various states, judicial officers, lawyers, academicians and law students who would gather immense knowledge.

Some of the sessions which were included in the workshop were themed as Role of Court and Duties of Police, Salient Features of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection Act) 2015, Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, General Principles of Appreciation of Evidence, Role of Forensics in Criminal Investigation and Prosecution and How to bridge the gap between the stakeholders of the Criminal Justice System.
Senior Advocates like Mr. Parag P. Tripathi, Ms. Rebecca John, Mr. Ramesh Gupta, Mr. Aman Lekhi and Mr. K.V. Viswanathan, were some of the experts speakers who held very intriguing sessions for the diverse set of delegates. Moreover, the insight into criminal investigation and the procedure therein from the perspective of senior IPS officers like Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Mr. Dependra Pathak, Mr. R.S. Krishnia, Special CP (Police Head Quarters), Ms. Deepika Suri, IPS,Mr. Suresh Garg, Jt. CP gave the delegates an entirely different view.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice J.R. Midha, Judge, Delhi High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sistani, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana and Hon’ble Ms. Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, Judge, Delhi High Court were also present for the inaugural function and graced the Experts’ workshop with their invaluable inputs.

Finally, the workshop ended with a grand valedictory session followed by high tea for all the guests, delegates and special delegates.
